About Reel Fixation

Movies have been an obsession of mine for about as long as I can remember.

I'm Jonathan Watkins, a writer and editor who has spent a good chunk of my professional life writing about movies and television. Reel Fixation is where I get to write about them without an assignment telling me what I should care about.

That means reviews, retrospectives, franchise deep dives, recommendations, histories, rankings, and the occasional rabbit hole inspired by some tiny detail most reasonable people stopped thinking about years ago.

Franchise Fixation

One of the site's recurring features is Franchise Fixation, where I'll work through entire movie franchises one installment at a time — reviewing the films while digging into how the series evolved, what happened behind the scenes, and occasionally how everything went completely off the rails.

We're starting with all 13 films in the Halloween franchise.

And then there's Star Trek...

I'm also beginning a considerably longer project: watching (and, in most cases, rewatching) Star Trek from the beginning.

That means starting with The Original Series in 1966 and eventually working through the television series and movies that followed. There is an unreasonable amount of Star Trek. We'll see how this goes.
